According to a fresh report from Bloomberg, Apple Information Systems planning to release its own premium break news membership service in an upgraded version of the Apple break news app, arriving sometime in the following year.
The service going to split revenues among Apple & magazine publishers, however specifics regarding which split weren’t available.
In the past, Apple offered magazines & newspaper subscriptions out of its previous Newsstand app, & out of Apple News, which replaced it.
Before Apple, Texture was owned with Condé Nast, Hearst, Meredith, Rogers Media & KKR.
While not all magazine publishers are focused on “news,” those that do cover technology & Apple specifically, can become uncomfortable with too relying on Apple for membership revenues.
