SAINT-DENNIS, France — Cesar Ruiz returned to practice Friday after hurting his knee last weekend against the New York Giants.
But the New Orleans Saints offensive lineman won’t play Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Saints declared Ruiz and six others inactive ahead of kickoff of the NFL’s first-ever game in France. Saints rookie Jeremiah Wright is expected to start in place of Ruiz.
Elsewhere, Nathan Shepherd will miss his third straight game with an illness. He was downgraded to questionable on Friday after participating earlier in the week.
But in good news for the Saints, linebacker Kaden Elliss and defensive end Anfernee Jennings are set to play after missing the last three games because of injuries. The two practiced throughout the week and avoided being listed as questionable or out. As a result of Jennings’ return, the Saints made Tyree Wilson, the edge rusher they acquired from the Las Vegas Raiders for a fifth-round pick, a healthy scratch.
Here’s the full list of who is out for New Orleans:
TE Treyton Welch
S Mike Reid
EDGE Tyree Wilson
DL Nathan Shepherd (illness)
DL John Ridgeway
G Cesar Ruiz (knee)
QB Zach Wilson (emergency quarterback)
