Sunrisers Leeds opened the new era of The Hundred with a dominant seven-wicket win over MI London at The Oval.

After a fine all-round bowling performance restricted MI London to 107-8, Sunrisers cruised to their target with 31 balls to spare.

Australia batter Phoebe Litchfield top-scored with a fluent 43 from 26 balls, while her compatriot Annabel Sutherland finished unbeaten on 30 from 23.

Despite a brilliant performance, there was a concern for Sunrisers as experienced bowler Kate Cross suffered a shoulder injury while diving in the field and had to be taken off by the physio.

It was confirmed she had not dislocated it, but would be going for a scan to determine the extent of the damage.

That left England all-rounder Dani Gibson – who was named captain of Sunrisers after being picked as the most expensive women’s player in the auction – with a bowler light but the rest of the attack stepped up effectively.

India spinner Deepti Sharma claimed the key wickets of MI London openers Hayley Matthews and Danni Wyatt-Hodge after they had made a positive start to reach 56-0.

From there, the home side stalled and Sunrisers chipped away with regular wickets including Gibson’s 2-17 and leg-spinner Hannah Baker took 2-16.
