Job description: Occupational Summary:The Career Development Advisor serves as one of the main career advisors for Beloit College students, manages the Center’s student staff, facilitates career development and experiential learning programming, and maintains the Center’s collateral resources, including digital platforms and advising documents. The Career Development Advisor also oversees some of the operational aspects of Career Works, including supervising student workers.. This is an 11-month position.Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities: * Career Development Advising (60%)
- Advises students in areas related to career development (including professional portfolio, graduate school, job searches, etc.) and experiential learning (including volunteering, college funding, experiential learning requirements, etc.).
- Use the career management database and the college’s student database to report on student engagement with the Center and experiential learning opportunities.
- Refers students to workshops, other advisors, and/or resources as appropriate.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge and information about career development and experiential learning trends and best practices.
- Creates monthly reports summarizing students’ engagement with appointments and events.
- Career Development Programming (15%)
- Plans and conducts workshops on topics related to career development.
- Coordinates resources in support of programming and independent student accessibility.
- Serves as the main point of contact and office specialist for all online tools (career management software, alumni networking platforms, supplementary aggregate sites, etc).
- Campus Outreach (15%)
- Builds relationships with student organizations, faculty, and staff to encourage student involvement with the center.
- Plans and conducts tailored workshops for the Advanced Mentoring Program (AMP) and capstone courses.
- Oversees the Center’s social media and marketing efforts.
- Operations (10%)
- Participates as a team member in activities related to the goals and objectives of the Center.
- Supervises the Marketing and Outreach student paraprofessionals and Student
- Monitor office budgets. Track expenditures, prepare invoices for payment, and prepare and reconcile departmental budget reports as necessary.
- Perform other similarly related duties as assigned.
Credentials and Experience: * Bachelor’s degree in counseling, human resources, or related field. (Master’s degree preferred.)
- 2-4 years’ experience in career advising or equivalent advising experience.
- Experience with developing and conducting workshops and advising sessions.
- Experience advising diverse groups of students and alumni.
- Experience with independently conceiving and completing projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Ability to understand and appreciate the mission of a residential, liberal arts college and to work well, in a fast-paced office, with diverse faculty, staff, students, alums, general public in a variety of situations.
- Ability to develop, and to contribute to, learning and work environments welcoming to people from a diverse variety of backgrounds and experiences.
- Oral and written communication skills, including the ability to make effective group presentations, and to describe programs and provide information with clarity.
- Knowledge of current and emerging trends in digital tools for career development and community engagement, including career management systems, alumni mentoring platforms, assessment tools, and office management tools.
- Ability to train, manage, and supervise student staff.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and implement programs.
- Excellent problem solving skills, with the ability to think critically, effectively prioritize, plan, and organize multiple tasks and projects and meet set deadlines with minimal supervision.
- The ability to communicate effectively with and serve as a resource for students, faculty, administrators, staff, alumni, prospective students and their families, and the general public.
