Working from home with slow internet speeds can be incredibly frustrating. While many try to combat this issue with WiFi speed enhancers, the results are often disappointing. However, a simple household item might hold the solution: aluminium foil.
This readily available material can be used to reflect and redirect the WiFi signal, potentially improving internet speed. The method involves positioning the foil behind the router, acting as a makeshift reflector.
To do this, one should fold the aluminium foil into a shape resembling an umbrella and place it behind the router, ensuring it doesn’t make contact with any part of the device. The aim is to enclose the router’s rear side with foil, effectively directing the signal and minimising wastage.
Caution is advised to prevent the router from overheating. The foil should be positioned strategically to boost, not obstruct, the signal. Since the shiny side of aluminium foil reflects waves emitted by the antenna, one should ensure that this side faces outwards when folding.
Further signal improvement can be achieved by placing the router in an elevated position, such as on a wall, and avoiding proximity to glass, mirrors, furniture, or walls. Additionally, one can consider using a wireless repeater or extender for enhanced coverage.
