Dog rescued from cliff at Pecca Falls in Ingleton

A dog stranded on a narrow ledge at the bottom of a 40ft (12m) cliff next to a waterfall has been safely retrieved thanks to the efforts of a volunteer-run rescue team.

Yorkshire Dales charity Cave Rescue Organisation (CRO) and North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue responded to the incident at the well-known Pecca Falls, in Ingleton, after 15:15 BST on Saturday.

Eight-year-old Labrador Penny had fallen into the river before becoming stuck after climbing up to a rocky outcrop 6.5ft (2m) above the water.

Using a rope system, a volunteer was lowered to the ledge to reach the dog before she was “hauled back up the gorge where she was reunited with her owners”.

The fire service’s Ripon swiftwater rescue team provided support downstream from where Penny was stranded.
